Both boats had a trouble free session in the Saturday mornings free practice, Brock did a handful of laps while Damon utilised the entire session to run in his engine.
Qualifying was up next in very tricky and windy conditions. Damon secured P2 only 0.05 from Ewan Bricker who took Pole. Brock qualified P3, 0.67 off the pole position time. This put Damon in Pole for Heat 1 and Brock P2 for Heat 2 (Odds VS Evens).
Damon got a fantastic start in his heat and took a comfortable lead which he maintained up until two laps to go due to a sparkplug lead coming loose, resulting in the engine running on five cylinders. Damon limped home in 2nd.
Brock also got a good start out of P2 and was able take the lead on the first lap in his heat race. Brock managed the race and the rough conditions well enough to take the win.
Sunday's split heat races were reverse grid, Damon was in the first heat, starting from P3. He again got a fantastic start and took the lead of the race. Unfortunately five laps into the race Damon stopped on track with a melted piston which resulted in a DNF.
Brock was up next, also starting from P3 in his heat. A good start saw him quickly move up to 2nd but early into the race Brock had a major and expensive DNF due to a gearbox failure which then destroyed the engine.
The team only had one spare engine for the weekend and decided to allocate it to Brock for the final.
Brock started P5 out of eleven starters and made his way to 3rd during the opening lap. Early into the race there was a red flag. On the double file rolling restart, Brock got rounded up by the boats behind and dropped back to 4th and eventually 5th, doing his best with the spare engine which had carby issues in the corners. The final ended early with a second red flag which moved Brock to 4th.
The weekend didn’t finish the way we wanted but both Brock and Damon showed they have plenty of speed.
A huge thank you to our hardworking team and crew as well to our sponsors for their continued support. Time to re-group, re-build and bounce back even faster for Round 2.
