Shattered, stunned, traumatised, overwhelmed and distressed all fall within the word………DEVASTATED.
That is how Cohen Bros Racing (CBR) felt just prior to Round 3 of the Australian Formula Power Boat Grand Prix Series held at Lake Mulwala on the piscatorial waters of the Murray River.
During testing the “principal” engine ‘lunched’ itself deluxe throwing rods like skyrockets on an old style cracker night. The body language of CBR resembled a funeral unlike the raw energy normally displayed.
Who will forget the post on facebook from John Cohen saying, “thought all of this was a bad dream”. The picture evidenced once pristine parts broken up into small pieces resembling a child’s lego set.
As you know CBR hang their hearts on their sleeve.
A quick pep talk from the Minister for Finance, Sharon Cohen (mum to the boys and wife of John) saw CBR back on track.
Option 2 is now triggered.
‘Old faithful’, i.e., the spare engine is mobilised and just two weeks prior to Round 3 a piston is melted whilst testing in the hands of former F3 champion and uncle to Brock and Damon, Dave Connolly.
From being in a really solid third place in the championship and challenging for second, chances of finishing on the dais at the completion of the series have literally have gone down the ‘gurgler’.
As you all know powerboat racing is not just about driver, boat and team.
Accommodation had to be cancelled and return to work earlier and put some bucks back in the bank. Not only did CBR take a psychological hit, financially CBR wallets were much lighter.
Fortunately Brock dusted himself off and accepted an invitation to drive the rescue boat for the weekend.Funny what body language you pick up. You could see Brock was dying to line up at the start with his fellow competitors in the ……….rescue boat. Doesn’t work like that Brock.
If Brock was disappointed on the Saturday night, it didn’t show.
We all had a great night at the Mulwala Water Ski Club with a very entertaining band on hand. One thing’s for sure. If Brock displays the same “silky” skills on the race track as he did on the dance floor, he’ll win by panels of fencing.
Thanks for taking the time in reading this and if you would like to promote your business or company, exciting opportunities exist at CBR where professionalism is of the highest standard.
See you at the track.
