Brock started from P2 and Damon from P11. Both boats launched from the start in a decent manner. Brock immediately found himself in a tight situation on the start straight but during the opening lap he managed to put himself into P1. Damon had placed himself inside the top 10 after the first couple laps.
Damon dropped back multiple positions soon into the race with an on going trim pump issue which was unable to be rectified before the race. Damon ended up retiring a little over halfway race distance after his engine expired. Brock however maintained a comfortable lead the entire race and came across the finish line in 1st position after a gruelling 15min race.
What happened next was heartbreaking. During post race inspections it was deemed Brock’s engine block did not comply with the wording of the current rules. Even though the block was within legal specifications, a technical infringement was still breached which disqualified Brock from the entire event. We are extremely disappointed with the decision.
The club officials are looking into making adjustments to the current wording of the rules to avoid this happening in the future to other competitors. Regardless of any changes to this for the future rounds, unfortunately Brock’s disqualification will still stand even though the same engine raced this weekend will be deemed legal after the rule adjustments. (if applied)
It is very likely that other teams running the 2.5 Formula GP engine may have the same infringement issue hence why it is important the ruling is clarified before Round 2 to avoid any future disappointments.
